A local remote-controlled plane group is once again flying high after they were temporarily banned from a Cape Coral park. We found out what changes they made to get back up and running.

Video from the Cape Coral R/Seahawks website shows their bestloved pastime – flying remote-controlled airplanes.

“That's stimulating for 300 humans who like to be out flying their little airplanes,” said club secretary Dick Maltby.

But Tuesday, they met with Cape Coral Fire Marshal Alan Carter.

“Main concern was he wanted to review with us what we had in place and what we're going to have in place to further have fire prevention,” said Cape Coral R/Seahawks President Ed Gamils.

Carter banned the group from flying at Seahawk Park following a little brushfire sparked by a plane crash.

Tuesday, he accorded to lift the ban as long as sure safety adjustments by the R-Seahawks were made.

“Very few crashes cause fires, but it's those fires that do cause fires we worry about,” Maltby said.

“If a circumstance happens, we are going to take care of it. But if there's anything you may do in that initial couple of minutes – good,” said Carter.

Group leaders plan on creating their own mobile fire unit and requiring each fellow member carry a fire extinguisher.

Stricter penalties will likewise be placed on those who fly planes outside the marked boundaries – an act which could endanger nearby homes.

“There are the boundaries. You fly outside of those boundaries and take your stuff and go home for the day, and that will be rigorously enforced,” Gamils said.

Fliers we spoke to say they're just excessively affected emotionally to have their park and sideline back after it was almost grounded for good.
